How to Have a Lifestyle That Supports Your Values Your values steer your decisions and set the rhythm of how to live your life. Those values will make or break you, and they will determine how you live the life you’ve dreamed of, like a footprint. Having a lifestyle that supports your values means living your authentic version of yourself in all areas of your life, including the workplace, with your family, and other aspects of your life that are important to you. Your values serve as a guide to living who you truly are. How do you bring your values to life? Use these steps to find how to live a lifestyle that supports your values: 1. Write them down. As essential as it may be, writing your values is the first step toward living them. You will be happy with how that will make a difference. ● We often get so overwhelmed with life issues and other trivial matters that we forget the values we’ve thought of setting for ourselves. Especially amid negative thoughts, we lose ourselves and values altogether. ● Writing your values separates them from the rest of the thoughts in your head. It creates meaning and heightens your values to something significant. ● Have a separate journal for writing your values and keep it somewhere where you can always look and remind yourself of your values. 2. Define what your values mean to you. After you have your values written, define them, but not by just searching online for the definition or in a dictionary. It would be best to define your values in your own words and write what they mean to you. ● Defining them helps you recollect what each of your values means to you. Sometimes, we take our values for granted, so writing our definitions helps stabilize each value’s importance in our lives and reminds us to align with them when making tough decisions. 3. Create an action plan. Action plans are things you do to allow yourself to live in your values. An action plan helps us clarify our values instead of writing them down or just thinking about them. ● Start your intention on what you want more of in your life and what you will do to stay in line with your values. ● Now, think about what you can do to support your values and live each value more positively. It can be as straightforward or as dynamic as you want! ● For instance, if staying fit is one of your core values, you can choose an action plan like exercising stretching every morning for 20 minutes, or you can choose to start weekly jogging. ● Maybe another value is learning new things, and you can make it your aim to learn a new skill every three months. You could learn pot-making or photography. ● Another step will be to remain consistent with your action plan. Choose exciting plans you are interested in, something you will look forward to. Start with something small that you can do each day to build up those actions over time gradually. ● As you attempt to be consistent with your action plan, you will notice how your values show up in your life. When you grow to be fully in line with those values, it will become more manageable, and you’ll build more confidence to go after bigger goals and aspirations in life.
